In addition to facts and figures on climate policy in the Map Creator, this website provides an overview on the main legal basis of climate policy in the 14 countries and regions included. Listed are pieces of binding legislation at the federal level as well as some major political programmes relating to climate protection.

For each country the legal acts and programmes are sorted into five core areas:

  • Emissions trading
  • Energy efficiency
  • Renewable energies
  • Climate protection / protection of the ozone layer
  • Air pollution
  

Where available, the legislative measures can be downloaded in English language or a link is provided. Wherever official English translations of the legislative measures could not be identified, the acts and programmes have been included in their original language. The titles have been translated by the authors of the website. Please note that all translations are free and have not been confirmed officially.

If for one country, few pieces of legislation and/or programmes may be found, this does not necessarily reflect that this country is less active in the area of climate protection. Quantity does not necessarily indicate the quality of legal measures and their implementation. Additionally, action may be taken in more informal ways and/or at regional or local levels.
