Legal Basis

The main legal basis of national climate policy is available on this website. Legislative measures are subject to constant change. The authors do not take responsibility for missing information. Included are pieces of binding legislation at the Federal level as well as some major political programmes relating to climate protection. If for one country, less pieces of legislation and/or programmes may be found, this does not necessarily reflect that this country is less active in the area of climate protection. Action may be taken in more informal ways and/or at the regional or local levels. For Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Russia, official English titles could not be identified for all listed pieces of legislation. They have been translated by the authors of the website.

For each country the downloads and links are sorted into the following categories:

  • Emissions trading
  • Energy efficiency
  • Renewable energies
  • Climate protection / protection of the ozone layer
  • Air pollution
